Anime

AVCon features anime screenings running around the clock throughout the weekend. The screenings range from new releases to cult classics, from a variety of genres. These are a fantastic opportunity for fans and novices alike to expose themselves to the rapidly growing anime culture!

Launch Party

Every year AVCon kicks off with an afternoon of premiere anime screenings on the Friday night before the weekend of the convention. The screenings are held in a relaxed cinema-style environment. Your pre-registration passes can be collected at this launch.

Anyone can drive fast. Only one driver can be the fastest. It takes nerve, skill, and the right car - and Takumi’s got all three. Set in an alternate universe, Japan has been divided since World War II. To the north, Hokkaido has been annexed by the “Union” while Honshu and other southern islands exist under US sovereignty. A gigantic and mysterious tower has risen in the north, easily viewed across the across Tsugaru Strait from Aomori, the northernmost prefecture of Honshu. In the summer of 1996, three 9th-graders had made a promise that one day they’ll build an aircraft and unravel the tower’s mystery, but their project was abandoned after the girl, Sayuri Sawatari, began experiencing sleeping sickness and transferred to Tokyo for better treatment. What the friends don’t know is that Sayuri’s unconsciousness is somehow linked with secrets of the tower... and the world.

To save his friends and the world he loves, Goku must travel to a realm from which few return, but should he survive, he’ll discover the power to face the villainous Saiyan warlord - Prince Vegeta.

Somewhere in Germany in the not-too-distant future all hell is breaking loose. Giant, biomechanical creatures of origins unknown are terrorizing the city. Labelled as Demoniacs, the creatures appear rabid and unpredictable, killing and maiming anything in their path. The town’s citizens are terrified, the media demands answers. In response the government employees a special-forces team to investigate. Known as the Xenogenesis Assault Team (XAT), its members quickly realize the creature is capable of infecting anyone it comes in contact with; no one is safe.

Neo-Tokyo, 2019. The city is well on the way to rebuilding after World War III. The central characters, Kaneda and Tetsuo, two high school drop-outs, are members of a joy-riding motorcycle gang. In the opening scene, Kaneda and Tetsuo stumble upon a secret government project to develop telekinetic humans, apparently for use as weapons. Tetsuo learns of the existence of his ‘peer’ Akira, the project’s most powerful subject, and determines to challenge him...

Wataru is a meek and unassertive boy. One day his father runs off, leaving Wataru and his mother behind. In shock, his mother suffers an accident. There Wataru must master magic techniques and collect hidden treasures to meet a goddess, who, it is believed, can make wishes come true.
