What warrants a grown man to dress up like Dejiko? We haven't a clue, but the answer probably has something to do with cosplay.
Cosplay has been an integral component of AVCon’s colourful fan community since the convention first opened. Fans from all walks of life converge at AVCon to show their passion for cosplay and dress up as their favourite anime and video game characters. Whether they wear their costumes within the halls of AVCon or appear on stage before family and friends, all cosplayers are here to show off their passion for video games and Japanese animation.

AVCon's annual cosplay competition never fails to pack out its venue, last moving into the 1000 seat main hall at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
Judged by an esteemed panel of hard-nosed judges, past competition categories include Best Female Character, Best Male Character, Best Amateur Cosplayer, Best Skit Performance, Best Cosplay Group and Best Crowd Pleaser.

Ever wondered whether a particular anime, manga or video game character could defeat another or how it would turn out? Then head to Cosplay Chess, the game where two teams of cosplayers, led by rivaling strategists, replace chess pieces and clash on a checkered fighting ground in a battle of wits!
Join in and be a piece on the board, or even a player.

But what is cosplay, do I hear you ask? Cosplay is short for Costume Roleplay, and refers to the subculture of dressing up as characters from manga, anime, video games, or even comics, graphic novels, or movies based upon such genres! Do you enjoy dressing up as your favourite anime or video game character? If so, then cosplay is definitely for you!
AVCon attracts a large variety of cosplayers ranging from beginners with cardboard box costumes, to professional cosplayers that have won awards nationally and internationally! Regardless of your experience, budget, or inspiration we welcome and encourage all costumed efforts!
