Creative events at AVCon encompass the areas of art and literature and include the following competitions:

AVCon Art Competition

Categories

The AVCon Art Competition consists of three categories:

  1. Anime Fan Art - Art of an already existing anime character/s drawn in your own style and pose.
  2. Video Games Fan Art - Art of an already existing video games character/s drawn in your own style and pose.
  3. Original Art - Art of a completely original character/s that you have designed.
Art Registration, Submission & Collection

Registration and submission of artwork is required to enter the competition, and will occur at the convention at the 'Information Desk'. It is recommended that you bring your entries over to the information desk as soon as you arrive so they may be placed up for viewing.

All artwork must be submitted by 1pm on the Saturday of the convention.

Artwork submitted should be collected on the Sunday between 3pm and 6pm from the display area, as it will not be mailed back to the entrant.

Conditions of Entry
  1. All art must be the entrant’s own work. Traced or copied works will not be accepted.
  2. Art entered in a previous year's competition will not be accepted.
  3. Artists can only submit a maximum of 1 piece per category.
  4. Art entered should be no smaller than A5 in size, and no larger than A2 in size.
  5. Art entries must fit into one of the three categories specified and relate to anime, video games or manga.
  6. Artworks with excessive violence, explicit sexual behaviour or offensive language will not be accepted.
  7. Real Media and Computer Generated artworks are accepted. Print outs of RM artwork are accepted to preserve the original copy.
  8. Framed artwork will not be accepted due to display limitations.
  9. The AVCon Committee reserve the rights to deny entry to the competition, for any reason.
AVCon Art Judging

Artwork will be judged by a panel of judges on the Saturday evening of the convention. The winners will be announced on the Sunday and displayed on a second board. Winning artwork will be awarded as "Best of Category" for each category. Prizes will be presented to the winners at the Awards Ceremony.

AVCon Fan-Fiction Competition

So you think you can write? Then enter the Fan Fiction Comp!

Conditions of Entry
  1. All entries must be the work of the entrant. Whilst work can be based upon the characters / worlds of existing works, entries cannot be plagiarised.
  2. Works entered in last year's competition will not be accepted.
  3. There is a maximum of 3 entries per person.
  4. Works must be G – rated in content.
  5. There is no constraints upon the length of entries, however entrants should limit entries to a short story of a sensible length.
  6. The AVCon Committee reserve the rights to deny entry to the competition, for any reason.
Fan-Fiction Submission

Entries must be submitted to avcon2010@gmail.com, by 5PM Friday the 16th of July, with the following information:

  • Name:
  • Contact Email/Ph No:
  • Entry Title Name:
  • Fan Fiction Basis (e.g. Super Mario Bros? Street Fighter?)

Entries should have "Fan Fiction" stated clearly in the email's Subject Header Field.

AVCon Fan Fiction Judging

Entries will be judged prior to the convention. The winners will be announced on the Sunday at the Awards Ceremony.

AVCon Haiku Competition

Conditions of Entry
  1. All entries must be the work of the entrant. Whilst work can be based upon the characters / worlds of existing works, entries cannot be plagiarised.
  2. All entries must conform to our stated Haiku structure consisting of 3 phrases with 5 syllables, 7 syllables and 5 syllables respectively.
  3. There is a maximum of 3 entries per person.
  4. Works must be G – rated in content.
  5. The theme of Haiku entries should relate to anime, manga, video games or AVCon
  6. The AVCon Committee reserve the rights to deny entry to the competition, for any reason.
Haiku Submission

Entries must be submitted to avcon2010@gmail.com, by 5PM Friday the 16th of July, with the following information:

  • Do you agree to AVCon displaying your Haiku at the convention or on our website? Yes / No

Entries should have "Haiku Competition" stated clearly in the email's Subject Header Field.
