AVCon 2010 Halo 3 Teams Tournament

Image

“Next thing I know Master Chief blows up the whole Covenant armada, and I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere, fighting a bunch of blue guys”

Platform - Xbox 360
Format - Teams of 4, Single Elimination
Team Cap - 64
Gametypes – Team Slayer, Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Oddball

Rules updates - last updated on 29/06/2010
* These rules are correct at the time of posting.
* Please check back leading up to the event for any possible revisions to these rules.

Greetings AVCon attendees, once again I'll be running the Halo 3 tournament this year. Unfortunately Halo Reach will not be available in time for AVCon, and the “free for all” tournament that we have held in the past will not be returning in 2010. So that's the bad news... The good news is that we have increased our already impressive 32 team tournament to 64 teams, easily making this one of the largest Halo Tournaments in the country if it wasn't already.

But first some simple rules regarding the tournament

Player/Audience behaviour
- Players must exercise sportsmanship before, during and after their matches. Players that exhibit any form of unsporting conduct (swearing at the other player, trash-talking, etc.) will automatically be disqualified.
- Onlookers in the audience who are rowdy or verbally/physically abuse the players before, during or after the tournament will be forced to leave the premises.
- AVCon does not tolerate cheating. Teams or players caught cheating, glitching, or game fixing can face disqualification.

Controls
- A standard gamepad will be provided for each player at the playing area.
- Competitors are permitted to use their own controllers; these must be checked in with tournament organiser prior to commencing.
- Tournament referees reserve the right to ban personal equipment.
- Unlike equipment donated to AVCon, It is the player's sole responsibility to look after their own equipment. AVCon can not guarantee the safety of personal equipment at the convention.
- Competitors will be given an opportunity to make adjustments to their settings (Inversion/sticks/button configurations)

Game Specific Rules
- The Elite armour classification is banned
- Any player leaving the normal play area, moving the flag, bomb or other game critical items from the play area can face disqualification.
- Should a player accidentally find themselves somewhere they shouldn't be they should leave immediately. If a player is uncertain whether or not they are in an illegal spot they should exercise the rule: "If in doubt, get out"

Other rules
- If a team is disqualified they will forfeit the match, with the opposing team advancing in the tournament
- If a problem occurs which is not the fault of the player (hardware failure, disconnected controller, etc), the players will engage in a rematch.
- The Referee and AVCon gaming staff reserve the right to ban any player or group for whatever reason from the tournament before, during or after the tournament.
- For any other situation which arises which is not covered by this rule set, the AVCon gaming staff will confer with the referee(s) and render a decision. Whichever decision is reached by the Tournament Referee is FINAL.

This will be a single elimination tournament. Ties will be resolved by comparing the following: combined team kills, least combined deaths or a 1 minute Team Slayer game
There are a number of game types available for teams to play which will be decided by the team that wins the coin toss at the start of each game. They will then pick the game type, while the other team will pick the map.

While I have strived to stick to the MLG rules, many have been adjusted. However this has been done purely at a "Score to Win" and "Time Limit" level. Allowing the tournament to get more players in than it could by sticking to those rules. The game rules are: Each player will spawn with a Battle Rifle, player damage and speed has been upped to 110%, and shield regeneration has been dropped to 90%. Unless otherwise stated all games will use these settings by default.

King of The Hill
Score to Win = 200
Hill Movement = 2 Minutes
Hill Movement Order = Sequence
Respawn Time = 10 Seconds
Time Limit = 8 Minutes
Map Selection
Valhalla, The Pit, Snowbound, Isolation, Guardian, Construct, Narrows

2 Flag CTF
Captures to Win = 3
Flag At Home to Score = Enabled
Flag Return Time = Disabled (3 seconds on Narrows)
Flag Reset Time = 15 Seconds
Flag Carrier Traits, Damage Modifier = 50%
Respawn Time = 10 Seconds
Time Limit = 8 Minutes
Map Selection
Valhalla, The Pit, Isolation, Narrows

Team Slayer
Score to Win = 50
Vehicle Set = No Vehicles
Respawn Time = 5 Seconds
Time Limit = 8 Minutes
Map Selection
Guardian, Construct, The Pit, Narrows, Snowbound, Isolation

Team Oddball
Score to Win = 250
Ball Carrier Traits, Damage Modifier = 50%
Vehicle Set = No Vehicles
Respawn Time = 10 Seconds
Time Limit = 8 Minutes
Map Selection
Guardian, Construct, The Pit, Narrows, Snowbound, Isolation

If there are any queries in regards to this tournament or any other aspect of the convention please don't hesitate to contact the videogames committee on videogames@avcon.org.au

All tournaments will be signed up for on the day of the tournament, with the exception of Pokemon, which is on the Saturday. Tournament registration generally opens an hour or two before a tournament starts at the tournament registration desk.

I hear you, there just aren't enough hours in the convention unfortunately. Last year's tournament was amazing and huge "thank you" to everyone who stuck it out to the bitter end.

I'm looking into a survey for the Halo players regarding next year's tournament. Just a few questions which will hopefully help the organisers next year in making more informed decisions.

Can we log on our GamerTags in this tornament? It'd be nice to be able to wear our current armor.

There will be no internet for any tournaments. Players will have to use pre-made profiles specially set up for the tournament.
