AVCon 2010 BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Tournament

Image

Sorry Kokonoe - Removing limiter.

Day & Time - Saturday 10:30am to 1:00pm
Rating - M15+
Platform - PS3
Format - Double Elimination
Team or Player Cap - 32 Players
Gametypes - Versus

Rules updates - last updated on 17/07/2010
* These rules are correct at the time of posting.
* Please check back leading up to the event for any possible revisions to these rules.

Player/Audience behaviour
- Players and spectators are expected to abide by the AVCon Code of Conduct at all times.
- Players and spectators must exercise sportsmanship and a high standard of personal conduct at all times before, during and after the tournament.
- Swearing, trash-talking and any other conduct considered abusive in any form may result in forfeit, disqualification or dismissal from the venue by the tournament Referee or Supervisors.
- Players and spectators may approach the tournament Referee with any grievance. The Referee’s decision regarding that grievance is final.

Controls
- Standard PS3 controllers will be provided for all consoles.
- Some arcade sticks will also be provided but may be limited due to availability. If players wish to play using an arcade stick controller they are advised to bring their own wired controller as all wireless controllers will be ruled ineligible (this is due to interference, battery failure and console density). Players are responsible for ensuring that all regulations that apply to their controller are followed.
- Players will be allowed to change controller configuration if and only if they request it, and only at the beginning of round one of the match.
- Since default configurations (Controller A/B/C, Arcade A/B/C) are not included with this game, players will be allowed to configure their controls. However, players are advised to familiarise themselves with the default configuration and make the required adjustments to their techniques where applicable prior to the tournaments. In the situation where a player requires a change in controls, the player will have a maximum of 30 seconds to make required changes.
- Default macros are allowed (A+B+C, A+B, etc), however Special move macros are banned, whether default or not.
- The tournament Referee reserves the right to ban personal equipment for any reason.
- AVCon takes no responsibility for personal gear damaged, stolen or lost at the convention.

Game Specific Rules
- Game Count: Best of 1 games
- Round Count: Best of 5 rounds
- Battle Time: 99 seconds
- Damage: Default
- Handicap: Default

Side, Character & Stage Selection
- Players are free to choose either side of the screen on agreement with their opponent. If an agreement cannot be reached the tournament Supervisor will toss a coin with the winner to choose their side.
- Players will choose their characters, double blind selection will be used if and only if requested by either player before character selection is undertaken, in which both players will secretly inform the tournament Supervisor of their character choice and the Supervisor will declare the characters used. Players will then proceed to choose that character (enforced by the Supervisor) and any costume choices. Failure to pick their nominated character will result in forfeiting the match.
- MU-12 will not be unlocked for the tournament.
- In the event that Unlimited Characters are included in the game, they will be banned by default.
- Stage selection will be random.

Additional information
- There will be no seeding in place, due to tournament size and structure.
- Finals will use the continuation method, so losses in the preliminary rounds will carry through into the finals.
- There will be no allowances made for double jeopardy situations.
- Players will be given 2 minutes from the match start time to arrive at their console before forfeiting the match.
- A reserve pool will be supplied if registration numbers are greater than the allowed 32 competitors, reserve players are expected to be in the designated reserve area and may be allocated any empty position in the loser’s bracket by the tournament Referee or a Supervisor once the scheduled player has forfeited.
- Where a distortion drive move is executed to end a fight, players will not be penalised for pausing the game on KO to skip the extended animation.
- There will be a ban on Beginner mode, selected during character selection.

Other rules
- Failure to comply with any of the rules or follow direction of a tournament Referee or Supervisor may result in forfeit, disqualification or dismissal from the venue.
- Failure to arrive to a match within the allowed time will forfeit the match.
- Pausing (except in conditions other specified) will forfeit the match.
- Soft-reset will forfeit the match.
- If a problem occurs which is not the fault of either player (hardware failure, disconnected controller, etc), a rematch using the same characters will be held immediately.
- The tournament Referee and Supervisors reserve the right to disqualify a player or group from the tournament before, during and after the tournament for any reason.
- Any player who feels they have an issue may refer to a tournament Supervisor, who will make a ruling. If a player directly affected by the decision disagrees with the ruling they may appeal to the tournament Referee.
- The tournament Referee’s decision on all matters specified in these rules and otherwise is final.

If there are any queries in regards to this tournament or any other aspect of the convention please don't hesitate to contact the videogames committee on videogames@avcon.org.au

4 8 player pools? really?

why not just do a single 32 player bracket & save a load of work. Pools only really work when numbers are over 64......

Theundyingmage has a good point. As a point of reference, most tournaments don't tend to implement pools until you go over 32 players, in which case I tend to put in just 2 instead of 4, until you get up to 64 and so forth.
They aren't actually much more work per se, but you do make it slightly more complicated unnecessarily.

Can we pre-reg for this? I have a friend who is coming and he'll pretty much drive straight there from the airport on Saturday morning so he doesn't miss this.

Lol, I'm sure many players already knew that beginner mode will be banned. But I guess that there will always be players who are daft and don't think pressing one button to do a half life damaging combo is totally unskillful and cheap.

According the a site I found on the net, beginner mode can be turned on and off for player matches.

I'm looking into it. Player Matches are usually the name for online unranked matches, though.

Pretty sure it's not on by default, I think you choose it from the button layout option on the character select screen

Awesome, will have to try that out. I can't find any translations online for the options menus. The option itself when availible must be selected manually - as in, draging the cursor across the screen and clicking on it.

If it's the same as the arcade version, I think when you select your character it comes up with an option for button layout, either ACBD or DABC, which you select by going up or down. However if you hit left or right on the stick I think it gives the option to select Beginners Mode.
Could be different in the console version though.
