What is The Indie Games Room?

The Indie Games Room (The IGR) is an Australian and New Zealand showcase of independent games, providing a platform to put independently made games in front of thousands of passionate gamers. The IGR has run alongside AVCon since 2008.

The Indie Games Room is open to all to play some games, check out the indie scene, get to know your local game devs and support amazing talent Australia and New Zealand-wide.

How to Participate in the Indie Games Room

The 2nd round of Expressions of Interest for the AVCon 2023 Indie Games Room are now open! Before applying, we recommend checking out our IGR Information Pack here. Once you’ve read through the pack, complete our Expressions of Interest form on this page or at this link (please note this will open in a new tab). Please note that to complete the form, you will need to be logged into a Google account for validation purposes.

Expressions of Interest will close on the 1st of July 2023. Applications submitted will then undergo review and applicants will then be informed of the outcome via their email. Please have your submission completed by the closing of the EOI period to ensure your game is given full consideration. We encourage you to provide as complete of a submission as possible, work in progress videos and screenshots are encouraged. All media provided will only be used for curation.

More games are submitted to IGR than we have space for to exhibit. As such, we select a subset of games that both cater to the broad tastes of AVCon attendees and best represent the indie game scene. Some of the factors we consider when selecting games are:
– Game genre/gameplay
– Unique or interesting game mechanics
– Different art styles
– Use of different peripherals
