Cosplay is an all-ages celebration, and it’s a fun way to express your love of a show or a game in your own creative way! This year, AVCon is running a Kids Cosplay Competition as a less serious and more fun display of their costumes! Applications are now open; check out below to enter!
What is the Kids Cosplay Competition About?
Cosplay is an all-ages celebration, and kids under 15 are encouraged to be involved in a less serious and competitive display of their costumes. This experience focuses on building confidence in young cosplayers and inviting a space to conquer performing on stage and support future exploration in this craft! We have opened this cosplay to both homemade and bought costumes – please see the rules for further information!
Kids are judged on two main categories: Cosplay costuming and Stage presence.
Cosplay costuming measures the quality of the cosplay. This factors in things like how well the costume fits the cosplayer, how accurate it is to the character its representing and the type of materials used for its creation.
Stage presence is marked by how well the contestant embodies their chosen character. The audience should be able to tell the character’s personality traits, and signature moves from how they performed on stage. Confidence is key to an amazing performance!

To be sure of how the day works, please make sure to read through the rules and expectations thoroughly!
What can I win?
Every contestant that braves the stage will receive a participation token to congratulate them! For those looking to take out the bigger awards, there are trophies up for grabs. The Judge’s Award is given to the cosplayer who stands out in the crowd. There will be more than one of these, depending on the number of applicants.
important dates + basics
- Applications for all divisions open on the 20th of April. The last day to enter is the 7th of July.
- The Kids Cosplay Competition will occur on both days of the convention. You cannot compete on both days.
- Contestants must be under 15 years of age at the competition date to compete in the cosplay competition. Anyone older is welcome to apply for the AVCon Cosplay Competition!
- Cosplayers can perform solo, with a parent or guardian or in a group of up to 5!
- Please ensure you have purchased a ticket for the day of the Festival you wish to compete in to be eligible for the Competition! Tickets can be purchased before the Festival or at the door on the day. However, please note tickets are limited, so we advise you to purchase online to avoid disappointment.

The Kids Cosplay Competition will take place early afternoon on Saturday and mid-morning on Sunday. Please familiarise yourself with the times given to you in your supplied email to know when to arrive. This is the first year we will be doing sign-ups on the day for both Kids Cosplay Competitions. These spots are limited and may run out – sign up early to guarantee your spot!
